Tour Description

The Tivoli Day Trip from Rome (Hadrian’s Villa & Villa d’Este)

Enjoy Tivoli’s Wonders!

Tivoli is a small town about an hour’s drive outside of Rome. Despite its small size, Tivoli boasts of two UNESCO world heritage sites: Hadrian’s Villa and Villa d’Este. This is definitely one of our favorite day trips from Rome.

Hadrian was one of the best Roman emperors, and he dreamt of building a huge residence in the country, close to Rome but also far away enough to escape the chaos of the Capital. Tivoli was the perfect choice. Hadrian was also a brilliant architect, and managed to build one of the most breathtaking villas ever.
This is not “just” a villa: it’s a unique complex that includes gardens, theaters, bath houses, roads and subterranean passages, massive pools and dining rooms. It’s the dream of an emperor that came true, a place where Hadrian could feel like a god on earth. And you will feel the same.

Centuries later, in the middle of the 15 hundreds, the Cardinal Ippolito d’Este also chose Tivoli to build his beautiful Villa d’Este, whose greatness could compete with Hadrian’s residence. The Cardinal’s villa was built on the side of Tivoli’s hill, and it’s a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture that should be included in every Rome architecture tour. It became instantly famous worldwide because of its gardens, the amazing fountains and the man-made waterfalls.

Villa d’Este is an incredible mix of art and hydraulic technique that still amazes the visitors nowadays.

We’ll pick you up at your hotel with a private car, we’ll go to Tivoli and, after the tour, we’ll drop you off at your hotel or wherever you prefer in Rome downtown area.

Testimonials

My husband and I used Giovanni and his team for four tours during out trip to Italy. The experience could not have been better. The private tours made our trip truly special. As well, the time saved from lines, efficiency and personalized focus made this experience a fantastic value for our vacation. Using this private guide maximized the value we received for the dollars spent on our trip, minimized our fatigue and enhanced the experience for our entire stay. It was an absolute privilege to tour these sites with a professional archaeologist. Thank-you so much Giovanni!
